| The Ohio Monument erected in the honor of the Ohio Soldiers ( mostly enlisted men) who died while imprisoned at Andersonville. (looking east from the west wall.) At least twenty-two soldiers of the 26th were imprisoned there, and at least seven died there during their captivity. Most of the 26th Ohio prisoners at Andersonville were captured at the Battle of Chickamauga, on 9/19/63.
The monument is located on the prison grounds, on the north slope near the west side of the prison. The location is very close to where the original north wall stood until the wall was moved further north to provide 10 more acres of space.
